MY SONGS OF 2016

Songs of 2016

This tradition of writing down the songs that I loved is well in its 4th year (that i just realised ) .Its my way of  looking back at my year via songs.  Stories and time when I first heard a  particular song and how it made me feel and of where I was. So this is the list of songs for this year  (in no particular order ).


* Catch the Wind - Donovan It's has the sweetest of lyrics

* Time In a Bottle - Jim Croce This was the first song that I heard this year which I knew immediately would make the list. Thanks!! Sahil for sharing it .

* There You go - Johnny Cash Haha!! It has really cool lyrics.
TV show : Master Of None ( Loved Season1 )

* To Fall in love with you - Bob Dylan
 I fall in love ( pun intended ) with this song every time I hear it. The Dylan's voice and the simplicity of the music is really addictive. I can hear it on loop for hours and hours. Can't wait to use it in a romantic slideshow.

* You are Everything - The Stylistics YOU ARE EVERYTHING AND EVERYTHING IS YOU * *I Just Called To say I love You - Stevie Wonder (Call her and play that song in the background )

* Happy Together - The Turtles * Unchained Melody - The Righteous Brothers I finished " The Wonder Years" this year . The show I had been dying to watch from the time I first watched it in comedy Central 4 years ago .One of the sweetest show ever. I am in in love with Winnie Cooper forever and Fred Savage was the cutest kid ever.

* Magic - Coldplay I stopped listening to Coldplay exclusively (for no apparent reason ) . It was 7 years ago when I first heard a band singing cover of " Yellow" in our college auditorium ,while I was studying Geometry in my hostel room. It was one of the most beautiful song I heard. Thanks!! To their concert in Mumbai , and watching every available video of Chris Martin on you tube. Now I am all caught up.

HIndi Songs Of 2016

*Choo lo - The Local Train
 I was in Shimla when my friend played this song on his mobile phone. At first I didn't much of it and then ended up listening to it all the way back to Chandigarh on loop. It's sooo good.

* Dil mere - The Local Train Another track from the same band. There is one particular line which I just love " किरदारो में उलझा, उलझा जग सारा" . It really makes me smile. Note to myself : Remember that very early morning ride to Sukhna lake while listening to this track . It was beautiful.

* Humsafar - Silk Route #Song of the Year

* Kaise ho Tum - Agnee

* Mera Sapna ( A Pakistani Band ) I was downloading some other track when I download this one , which is this really really beautiful song by this Pakistani Band whose details I couldn't find on Google.

* Afreen Afreen - Rahat Fateh Ali Khan ( Coke Studio version )
Chehra ik phool ki tarh shaadaab hai Chehra us ka hai ya koyi mahtaab hai Chehra jaise ghazal
chehra jaan-I ghazal
Chehra jaise kali chehra jaise kanwal..... The whole paragraph makes me think of this beautiful human being that I met this year. How can someone be so nice and pretty and every time I talked to her my heart would melt with whole of me. One day I was looking at her . " John , let's go " I had to go now i though to myself . But I couldnt . i didn't want to move . I knew I could stand there and watch her for hours and hours and still my eyes will never get enough of her . The song describes her beautifully and nothing I would say can match it .

* Ek Ajnabi Hassena sai - Double Mint add

MY SONGS OF 2015

1. Making love out of nothing at all -  Air Supply
This song was everything this year. Everytime i listen to it , it  reminds me of all those 4'0 clock runs in morning,   i would  start running at  this  song (without any exception   ). it develops superbly  , stanzas after stanzas,  filling you with this energy that travels through your body like a urge (for me it was to run and keep running ).

3. Burn this Town - Battleme Tv Show : Sons Of Anarchy (S.O.A.) IT was the first tv show I finished  this year. It made me cry , it made me laugh, it made me scream . (half of the songs are from this show and other half are from SHAMELESS )



4. Cherry Blossoms - Night Beds <3 "Play me a simple song
so i can sing along

5. Nothing Glorious - Musee MecaniqueLoved  every line of this song , it's so fucking great.

6. Postcards from Italy - Beirut Tv show : Shameless .
AAh !! this song and Fiona Gallagher.
I remember listening to  this song for hours , You can never get bore. Love it

Lyrics of this song should be framed and hanged on the hall of fame.

Last episode : Tears fills my eyes every time.

 Carrie's  loves this song .

12.  In the air tonight - Phil Collins 
Fall in love with this song the moment I  heard it  in the pilot of The Americans , Keri Russell's making love in the car.  Absolutely dig the drumming , when chorus is repeated one last time at  the end  for one last time .(You will know , it's so fucking amazing)

Monsoon Run

“Wear your own socks” said my sister.
I was getting ready for my run ,   outside rain was falling heavy .
I love that sound , the tapping of rain drops on the window panes .
I wore them anyway . Bunch of girl were standing on the balcony outside .
I did my hand-through-the-hair  routine and started walking   with plugs in my ears
By the time i got to MCM. I was drenched in rain , from head to toe.
I closed my eyes and looked at the sky, the rain drops falling  were on my face, running down the cheeks to my lips .
And all of sudden it hit me “Let’s run to Sukhna?”
Short Change Hero- The Heavy sound track  starts with  a sound of thunder .
water sipping through my t-shirt to waist, music in my ears. “It’s perfect”
with every step I got more excited with the  new plan. After running for half a km ,  i-pod stopped working . “Shit !!
(I never run without music . it just seems silly to me) . I should  go back “
But as I took off the plugs .  I could hear the sound of rain falling down heavy wind passing through the trees  and a long road ahead of me .
So I decided to keep running , crossing the roads , switching to the footpaths then again to the road, splashing the water on side . I crossed the people sitting in stopped cars on the side of road. I could feel the gaze of those dry people hiding under the shelters of bus stops. I crossed roundabouts.
I don’t why I kept running . May be it was the whole running in the rain or may be so I can tell you about it. Rain started slowing down as I entered sector-10. I had a stupid smile on my face. Every car or person I crossed, they just saw a boy running but they didn’t know how long I had been running or how long I would run for. I only stopped after entering into Sukhna .
I went down the stairs and sat there
Now question was “whether to run back to MCM again?”.
I knew I can easily run to Shukna challenge was to to run back .I couldn’t sit for long . “if I had to run back I have to start before fatigue settles in every muscle.  “
So I started my run back . it had almost stopped raining . My clothes were soaked getting heavy . City started coming back to to  life . There was so much traffic on red lights and roundabouts  but that didn’t stop me . I went around the cars , running between them to cross the roads then took the side roads  I was almost hit by a bicycle  (just a centimeter of gap )and before I know it .I took the left turn  for the fragrance  garden and then MCM. My first 18 km run :)

Sunday Morning Rain

I love waking up to the sound of rain drops on the shed, outside my room and in  mornings like this  when cool winds are blowing it's hard to leave the embrace of the warm blanket But I've opened every door for the wind to gush through the  rooms which has been dark and loomed .

If you could be here, you could see me standing at one of the door , holding a cup of tea and waiting  for it to cool down so I can drink it in one  single gulp,  see me looking at the pigeons which are abundant in our neighbourhood . I love birds and  I love how they can soar in the wind  on their free will. With every flap of their wings,  the dreadful dream of last night seems to fade away but  with every sip I feel the mood of it dawning on me .

On beautiful days like this. I like to open my arms and let the wind drift through me and take away the sadness but instead it fills me longing and desire to hold someone and share this moment together before everything which is finite ,fades away in this cold wind of rainy Sunday morning.

1. THE CAPTAIN - KASEY CHAMBERS 

Diary entry  from January 2014:
I fell in love with this song over and over again and it took me weeks to 

get over it and to get over the circumstances in which song being played 

on THE SOPRANOS like Tony himself .
ANNABELLA SCIORRA as Gloria Trillo was so beautiful. I still miss 

her.

2. THE TRAPEZE SWINGER - IRON AND WINE 

This is the song i want my friends and family to remember me by .

 Every time i feel hopeless to great extremes.  whenever i   want everything 

to end and just die , float towards the sky  with it's tune in my ears  i listen 

to this song . These 9 minutes and 31second  are everything.

3. ALL OF THE WORDS - KUTLESS 
My favorite romantic song of this year , i first heard this song on equally 

great tv series THE SCRUBS ( Emmense love for JD and Hooch is 

crazy) . I cry every time i hear this song on repeat . It just perfectly 

describes every romantic feeling in me.

Another great ,great and great song from THE SOPRANOS (the great 

show that it is) the song comes in the 5th season

i twitted almost every line of this song because its that good.

All this songs are from the show HOUSE M.D. (my favorite tv show of 

all time, everything thing about it is perfect. Characters , story ,cases , 

songs and HUGH LAURIE.
 i often go to Sukhna Lake (Chandigarh)  to watch Sunrise and i never  

forget to sync these songs in my iPod. The mountains , the sunrise , water. 

can never feel so alive.

11. BETWEEN THE BARS - ELLIOT SMITH
I heard this song in the movie STUCK IN LOVE . Every time i listen to it,  

remember the teary eyes of LILLY COLLINS and it bring few in mine.

12. ALL THE WRONG PLACES - EXAMPLE 
I downloaded some different version from the internet and i don't know 

which . But it's so good, with this beat before the chorus. It's takes out.
plus the song has such great lyrics.
"You're looking for love in all the wrong places". says too much. 

There are some more songs who couldn't be added in  12 songs of the 

year . (One for each months.)
